Processors
A processor is the electronic circuitry in a computer that executes the instructions of a computer program by performing the arithmetic, logic, control, and input/output (I/O) operations specified in the instructions. The computer program that instructs the processor is usually stored in read-only memory (ROM) or flash memory. The term "processor" generally refers to a central processing unit (CPU), but can also refer to other types of digital logic circuits, such as graphics processing units (GPUs). CPUs usually consist of a number of functional units, including an arithmetic logic unit (ALU), which performs arithmetic and logic operations, and a control unit (CU), which takes instructions from memory, decodes and executes them, invoking commands as necessary. the ALU. A processor usually also contains registers that store data and address pointers for use by the controller, and a cache memory that stores frequently used data.
